Follow our tips below to help keep yourself safe when using
taxis. Try and use the firm you know, or have had previous
dealings with. If you are a female travelling alone you might
like to ask if there is a female driver available. If picked up
from home don't give the impression that you have left your
house empty, say out loud 'I'll see you later' or I'll lock up
at the front' even if no one is in the house.
-
Avoid private hire cars that
tout for business.
-
If you gave your name when
you booked, check that the driver can tell you it before you
get in.
-
When in a taxi, always sit
directly behind the driver.
-
If in any doubt, don't get
in a taxi.
-
If you are going to be out
late, try to arrange a lift home or book a taxi.
-
Reputable mini-cab or
private hire companies can only be booked at their office or
by phone.
-
Check that the taxi that
arrives is the one you ordered. Ask for a description of the
car - colour, make, etc - and check this when it arrives.
-
When you get home, ask the
driver to wait until you are inside.
-
You are not insured for a
trip in a private hire vehicle unless you booked it. Private
hire vehicles don’t have a sign on the roof. There are
people that pose as private hire companies.
-
Use a company that you have
used before.
-
Taxi firms often have female
drivers available.
-
Share a
taxi with a friend if you can.
